I must admit I’m a late comer to the show.
One night, I was lazily browsing Netflix when this cover ad arrested my attention. A vivid list of criminals popped in my head. I got that part right.
But at the back of my mind, I really thought it was just another one of those generic crime procedurals, solving another generic murder. I’ve had enough of those scripted crime shows for a while yet.
My, how wrong I was! I am glad I gave it a shot.
So okay, I binge-watch Seasons 1 to 4. The show’s that good. The story arc is riveting. It’s kind of expected that there is always an underlying motive behind Raymond Reddington’s calm facade. Still, it astonishes me when the story eventually unfolds. He is quite a spectacle to watch. It keeps me on the edge of my seat, every time.
1. Raymond Reddington
He is the show. Take him out and no doubt there is no Blacklist. Raymond Reddington does sinister things in a charming way.
2. Raymond Reddington and Dembe Zuma
They are the very definition of partners in crime.
3. Raymond Reddington and his one-liners
He never seems to run out of witty remarks. He makes surprising connections from his heaps of experience.
4. Raymond Reddington and his amusing anecdotes
He is a master storyteller. The way he delivers them is darkly amusing. You almost always hear it in an inconvenient circumstance.
5. Raymond Reddington and his philosophical quotes
No doubt he is articulate. You can’t help but hang on to his every word.
6. Raymond Reddington and his hats
He has impeccable taste. Only the best for him, even if it means getting it through illegal means. But, if he asks me to spend the weekend with him in Panama, I’d say, hell yeah!
7. Raymond Reddington and Mr. Kaplan a.k.a. “the cleaner”
I clearly recall she plays the lady snake in one of the episodes in X-Files. In the Blacklist, she is simply known as the cleaner. Wouldn’t spoil it for you, but Mr. Kaplan is an interesting character.
There you go, my top reasons for being hooked on this show. Can’t wait for Season 5! Ressler, I’m looking at you. Welcome to the dark side. Aram and Navabi, go for it. I’m rooting for you guys.
And one more thing, The Blacklist has one super cool collection of soundtracks. Got mine on Spotify.
I could not agree with you more! Your views are spot on 100% mine, too! Very well-written reasons!
